Tips, Answers & Solutions for Frequently Asked Questions about Custom Tables

This article elucidates the frequently asked questions related to Custom Tables and offers insights on maximizing the efficacy of Custom Table utilization:

Section Subtotals

Adding a Subtotal to the Section summarizes all the Lines, Reference rows, and Sections that are included under it.

To add the Subtotal of the Section, navigate to Settings ⚙️> Custom Tables > click on the ellipsis (. . .) to the left of the Section and choose + Add Subtotal:

Be Aware:

  • You cannot add the Subtotal of the Section that includes Lines with different Formats. In other words, the Format for all the Lines within the Section must be identical. If the Formats are different, the "SAVE CHANGES" button will be greyed out, so you will not be able to save the Custom Table adjustments successfully.

  • You cannot add the Subtotal of the Section that includes Lines with different Period Values. In other words, the Period Values for all the Lines within the Section must be identical. If the Period Values are different, after saving the Custom Table changes, you will get the System Health Error, and the Subtotal Section will be highlighted in red under the Plan area.

Cannot "Save Changes" within a Custom Table

Several potential factors may prevent the successful saving of a Custom Table, causing the "SAVE CHANGES" button to appear greyed out. The most common reasons are:

  • Sections and Lines Names are not unique

Each Section and Line's Name within the same Custom Table must be unique:

To resolve the above issue, modify the Name of one of the Lines/Sections or add a distinguishing character to ensure they are unique.

  • The Subtotal for a Section includes Lines with different formats

To solve the above issue, adjust the Number (#) Format to the Money ($) Format so all the lines' Formats added under the Opportunity Pipeline ($) Section including the Subtotal will be consistent.

Lines containing errors that prevent the Custom Table from being successfully saved are highlighted in orange for easy identification:

Section Cloning

A Section included in the Custom Table can be cloned either:

  • Within the same Custom Table by clicking on the ellipsis (. . .) to the left of the Section and selecting "Clone". The cloned Section will then be displayed below the original Section with the suffix "Cloned" at the beginning of the Name,
  • To another Custom Table by clicking on the ellipsis (. . .) to the left of the Section and selecting "Copy to Table". The copied Section will be allocated at the top of that Custom Table.

Be Aware:

  • It is not possible to clone the total Custom Table

Period Value Impact on Dashboards & Reports

Each Line's Period Value determines the aggregation of data over time (such as the Quarterly or Annual sums) in Dashboards and Reports.  These values can be set up as follows:

  • Beginning Balance: Takes the first value in the period (typically used for Balance Sheet accounts such as Cash)
  • Ending Balance: Takes the last value in the period (typically for ending balance accounts such as an Ending Customers Count)
  • Sum: Adds up all the values in the period (typically used for Income Statement accounts such as Revenue)
  • Average: Takes an average of all the values in the period (typically use for percentages such as Net Retention Rate)

As demonstrated in the below screenshots, the Period Value can be utilized to accurately identify the number of Reps at the End of the Month in the Reports area:

When the Reps End of Month's Period Value is adjusted from Ending Balance to the Sum, the Total column will display the sum of Reps End of Month for July - December 2024.

Moving Lines and Sections

The order of Lines and Sections within the Custom Table can be fully customized. Once the structure of the Custom Table is established, adjustments can be easily made by clicking on the ellipsis (. . .) to the left of the Line or Section and selecting the Move button. You can then drag the Section or Line to the desired position.

Did you know?

Lines can be moved not only within the same Section, but they can also be moved to another Section of the same Custom Table.
